At the heart of STRIDE are amazing volunteers whose commitment and passion change the lives of thousands of boys each year. Our volunteers are dynamic role models dedicated to developing young men of excellent character. Whether you have just a couple of hours a year, a season or a month to help our cause, we would love to hear from you.
BECOME A COACH
- Coaches do not have to be elite runners. They just have to be men or women over 18 who maintain a healthy lifestyle and are committed to improving the lives of boys!
- New Coaches must attend a half day STRIDE Coach Training. At least one full time coach per team must be CPR certified. We do offer complimentary CPR training to coaches on specific dates each season.
- All curriculum and materials are supplied and coaches are provided with a support network and tips along the way.
- STRIDE teams meets twice a week for 75 minutes. STRIDE TOO teams meet twice a week for 90 minutes.
- Teams of coaches welcome! At least two coaches needed at each site.
At STRIDE we are committed to equipping our coaches with the skills and knowledge they’ll need to lead their team through a transformative season. During coach training you’ll learn about building relationships within your team, creating an environment the boys can thrive in and becoming familiar with the curriculum and activities you will lead during the season. You’ll also get the chance to meet other coaches, share your expertise and have some fun. We look forward to seeing you there!
In order to become a coach for STRIDE, you must complete these three steps:
- Complete the Volunteer Coach Application.
- Complete the volunteer clearance process. Click here to view instructions.

When you sign up to be a STRIDE coach you’re signing up to change lives. Our coaches come from a range of backgrounds, professions and levels of experience. One thing they all have in common is a passion for helping boys grow. We are honored and excited to have you join our team of volunteer coaches! If you have any questions, please contact us.
Joining our team of STRIDE Ambassadors is a great way to get involved with STRIDE if you want to make a difference and be part of this life-changing program, but may not be able to make the commitment to coaching for an entire season. As a STRIDE Ambassador you will have the opportunity to assist our coordinators in the general day to day work of STRIDE in an effort to ensure our program is delivered with integrity and quality with site visits and coach support/mentoring. You will become an ambassador for STRIDE in your community and a partner with our YMCA of Greater Brandywine STRIDE team as we prepare for each season and 5K event. STRIDE Ambassador volunteers are past coaches, past participants, or simply dedicated individuals who understand and embrace the mission of STRIDE and have some time in their schedules to share with this inspiring organization. To become a STRIDE Ambassador, please complete our volunteer application and volunteer clearance process.
