Our YMCA serves nearly 80,000 children, families and adults through education support programs, health and wellness initiatives, and safe, fun opportunities that develop the potential of our children.
The Y is committed to taking on many of the greatest challenges facing our youth, our health, and our community. No other organization can impact as many people as powerfully as the Y does in our community every day. We need your support to make it happen.
How Your Dollars Work
When you donate to the YMCA of Greater Brandywine, every single dollar you give goes toward financial assistance. Every dollar helps a child have a fun and safe summer. Every dollar provides working parents with professional, nurturing childcare. Every dollars makes certain that everyone has access to a way to stay healthy. By giving a little or giving a lot, you will make an important difference in someone's life. Let's take a look at some of the ways your gift can have an impact.
Why You Should Give
There are a lot of different reasons for giving. Every day, the Y helps kids, teens, families and adults to have measurably better lives. The work we do makes a difference and your donation, no matter the size, goes toward the millions of dollars we award each year that ensures everyone has this opportunity. Here are just a few of the stories of how the Y has had a direct impact on our members lives.
Kayi Okine grew up at the Y. She and her siblings attended Y childcare and spent their summers at Y camp. That’s where she discovered gymnastics.
But, it wasn't until she was 13 that Kayi joined the Gymcats – the YMCA of Greater Brandywine's gymnastics team. “I was by far the oldest in my class, but I wanted no more than to learn to flip, twist and fly like the girls I saw on TV,” said Kayi.
Kayi persevered and practiced with support from her coaches and her team. Along the way, she learned more than mastering a kip or sticking a beam dismount. Read more of Kayi's story...
5-year-old Nathan loves going to school. He eagerly bounces from learning center to learning center, first building with blocks, then pressing out shapes with clay and finally, settling on a comfy cushion to read a favorite book with his mom, Kariann. Nathan’s grandmother comes to school, too, when Kariann is at work.
Nathan is a student in the YMCA of Greater Brandywine’s new Early Learning Readiness Program – a Kindergarten readiness program offered without cost to financially disadvantaged families at four community sites in the Coatesville area. The YMCA of Greater Brandywine is just one of 36 Ys in the country to pilot this new, research-based program designed to improve academic outcomes for children who are cared for by family, friends and neighbors.
