Find the program right for you at the Y! Group exercise classes are included (unless otherwise noted) and are taught by certified instructors. Programs are offered throughout the week and provide a fun environment for you to workout and get healthy. Below is brief overview of the variety of fitness classes you can find across the YMCA of Greater Brandywine association. 

Our group exercise classes offer movement and intensity options. This makes most classes appropriate for all fitness levels and everyone gets the workout that meets individual needs.

Group Exercise

Les Mills™ BODYATTACK - The sports-inspired cardio workout for building strength and stamina.  This high energy interval training class combines athletic aerobic movements with strength and stabilization exercises.

Les Mills™ BODYVIVE - A low-impact, whole body workout to boost fitness and strength incorporating resistance tubing.

Les Mills™ RPM  - RPM is the indoor cycling workout where you ride to the rhythm of powerful music. Take on the terrain with your inspiring team coach who leads the pack through hills, flats, mountain peaks, time trials, and interval training. Discover your athlete within sweat and burn to reach your endorphin high. Like all the LES MILLS programs, a new RPM class is released every three months with new music and choreography.

Les Mills™ BODYCOMBAT - The empowering cardio workout where you are totally unleashed. This fiercely energetic program is inspired by martial arts and draws from a wide array of disciplines such as karate, boxing, taekwondo, tai chi and muay thai. Strike, punch, kick and kata!

Les Mills™ BODYPUMP - This original barbell class challenges all your major muscle groups by using the best weight-room exercises like squats, presses, lifts and curls. Great music, awesome instructors and your choice of weight inspire you to get the results you came for- and fast!

Les Mills™ CXWORX - CXWORX is a 30-minute revolutionary core training workout that will challenge you, while improving functional strength, balance, and mobility.

Les Mills™ GRIT - Thirty minute classes rotate through a schedule of cardio - designed to burn fat and rapidly improve athletic capability by use of high impact body weight exercises, Plyo - power agility training on a bench that will build a powerful, agile, athletic body and increase speed, and, Strength - build strength and tone lean muscle plus boost your metabolism with the use of plates and dumbbells.

Zumba - ZUMBA fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow dance moves to create a dynamic workout that will blow you away. No experience necessary.

Zumba Toning - Toning sticks bring strength training into the workout. Dance your way to better muscle tone in one, fun class!

Zumba Gold - Whether you are new or have experienced Zumba before, this class has something for everyone. Adaptable for all age groups.

Zumba for Kids - Kids love to crank up the music, wiggle and have fun with their friends. This Zumba class is designed specifically for children.

Balletone - This class blends ballet, Pilates, and fitness for a body-blasting workout that leaves no muscle untouched.

Barre -A mix of pilates and ballet using the barre in a low-impact workout. No dance experience required.  Appropriate for all fitness levels. Delivers incredible body-changing results while promoting muscular endurance and functionality. Challenges and sculpts the body without the risk of injuries associated with overuse.

Barre-None - This class is designed to strengthen and tone the entire body through a series of ballet and pilates-inspired movements, but without the use of the barre.  No dance experience required.

Cycle - Great class for everyone. You control the resistance and intensity level of your ride. Instructors will assist you in bike set-up, posture and cycling technique. We offer many choices so pick your favorite. All classes are 55 minutes unless noted.

Cycle Core - Great class for everyone. You control the resistance and intensity level of your ride. Instructors will assist you in bike set-up, posture and cycling technique. Then add some core work for a well rounded workout.

Family Cycle- A great opportunity for family time.  You control the resistance and intensity level of your ride. Instructors will assist you in bike set-up, posture and cycling technique. All classes are 55 minutes unless noted.

Cycle Trek - Try this exciting class that combines a fun but challenging 55 minutes of cycling followed by a run outside or on the track.

Beginner Cycle - A great class for everyone ages 8 and up, but specifically programmed for those new to a cycle class. You control the resistance and intensity level of your ride. The instructors will assist you in bike set-up, posture and cycling technique.  As part of the workout, the instructor will give detailed descriptions of the variety of work that can be expected in a cycle class. This class prepares you for any indoor cycle class. Ages 8 to 11 must be accompanied by a participating adult. 

Cycle Strength - A group cycling class that combines climbs, sprints and flat rides for calorie-burning cardio work on the bike with strength training for upper body and abdominal work. The strength training can be performed either on the bike with a heavy load in the legs or by dismounting the bike and working on the floor. This class is appropriate for all levels of participants.

HIIT Cycle - High intensity interval training on a bike. Discover the cardiovascular benefits and increased calorie burn that come with high intensity interval training adapted for a cycle format.  

Cycle / Tabata - Intense cardio with short recoveries followed by 3-4 rounds of tabata including, core (planks, side planks, leg levers, etc) upper body (resistance bands, pushups) and plyo (burpees, step ups, mountain climbers, hi knees, etc). Thirty minutes on the bike and 30 minutes off. The best of both worlds!

Parkinson's Cycle -This class focuses on the high repetitions of cycle rotations have been shown in medical studies to reduce tremors and other effects of Parkison's Disease. The added benefit is the opportunity to connect with other families facing Parkinson's challenges.  Trained coaches are there to assist you on your journey to improved health. PIYO - PIYO is a unique athletic blend of cardio, pilates, yoga and toning movements. The mind/body movements fit perfectly together to create choreography that is fun and challenging.

Tabata Get ready to sweat with high intensity interval training!  Twenty seconds of work followed by 10 seconds of rest, repeated 8 times. Instructors will take you through a number of moves to enhance strength and endurance.

Insanity Interval training at its highest. Put aside everything you know about interval training and get to this class. It's intense; it's INSANE!

Bootcamp - This class is focused on total body conditioning using a variety of equipment.  No experience is needed as all moves can be modified for a beginner or advanced participant.

Ultimate Crosstraining Every day is different in this challenging class that combines cardio and strength training by incorporating a variety of equipment.

Fit Lite Improve overall health using low impact techniques that incorporate light cardio, strength, and balance.

Chair Fit Lite All the components of a Fit Lite class, but from the stability of a seated position.

Lite Strength This joint-friendly class features resistance training using weights, bands and body weight exercises to strengthen muscles and help maintain strong bone density.

Silver Sneakers Circuit Combine fun with fitness to increase your cardiovascular and muscular endurance all in a standing cardio circuit while using hand-held weights, elastic tubing and a ball. A chair is used for support if needed.

Body Sculpt This unique combo class uses a variety of equipment to help you achieve better toning & definition.

Functional Strength This strength training class incorporates a variety of equipment and training techniques in moves that recruit multiple muscle groups, mimicking the way the body is challenged in daily life.

Silver Sneakers Classic - The Silver Sneakers class that works on muscle strength and range of motion using light weights, bands and chairs.

Step A fun, challenging cardio workout using a step and risers. Adjust the intensity to fit your needs.

Adv. Step - A fun, challenging cardio workout using a step and risers. Faster paced, higher intensity, more complex choreography then the Step class. 

Step Interval - This intense step workout is combined with weighted muscle conditioning for a complete workout. 

Complete Core Strengthen and tone your foundation in this class focused on your core muscles.

bodyFITA combination of cardio, strength, and pilates-inspired core training, bodyFIT can be done as a low-impact workout or revved up for the bigger calorie burn.

Aerobics The classic. An invigorating class using basic aerobic choreography and traditional floor aerobics for all fitness levels.

Kickboxing - This aerobic workout incorporates traditional kickbox moves and drills to promote cardiovascular and muscular fitness.

Get on the Ball Don't fear the sphere! Get an awesome core workout using the stability ball!

Family Fun Fitness - This class is a chance for families to work out together in a relaxed, fun environment. Games and stations will be used for cardio, strength and coordination skills.

CardioDance - Move and Groove your way to health.  Love shakin' what your mama gave you?  This is the workout for you.  Time will fly by as you work on coordination and cardio vascular health to the latest dance grooves.

Pilates This mat work class focuses on the body's core stability. Enhance your control, stability, coordination, endurance, balance, strength and flexibility.

Advanced Pilates This more intense pilates class offers exercises that flow from one to another at a faster pace with more challenging strength exercises.

Yoga/Pilates - A blended class of yoga and pilates. To help strengthen the core while working on flexibility and increased connection to the breath.  

Gentle Yoga Great for those new to yoga. Move through traditional yoga postures while slowing the breath, focusing the mind, and opening and stretching the body.

Yoga/Pilates for Beginners - Strengthen your core through the benefits of pilates and increase flexibility through yoga. This class is designed for beginners.

Yoga for Athletes - Strengthen your body and promote healing through a combination of flowing yoga postures purposely chosen to strengthen movement for active, athletic participants.  Postures will connect with the breath, centering and core abdominal work while drawing attention to athletic-style movement as well as daily functional movements.  Class is appropriate for all levels.

Yoga Flow - Create a mind-body connection with this flowing sequence of poses linked together with deliberate breaths.Yoga postures are connected with breath, emphasizing the development of heart, strength, and flexibility.

Yoga for Beginners - You do not have to bend like a pretzel to benefit from yoga. Learn breathing techniques and basics of a solid foundation to begin your yoga practice.

Power Yoga - An intermediate to advanced level yoga workout that pushes your strength, balance and flexibility to new levels.

Hatha Yoga - Strengthen your body and promote healing through a combination of flowing yoga postures connected with the breath, centering and core abdominal work.

Kundalini Yoga - This is a yoga of awareness designed for healing intentions, such as releasing fear, expanding energetic capacity, cleansing lymph or respiratory systems and removing life obstacles. This class will strengthen the overall mind/body capacity.

Meditation - This practice consists of rhythmic breathing and seated meditation to help you keep your life in balance.

Chair Yoga - You will work through an amazing series of adapted exercises, increasing strength and flexibility while being supported by a chair. 

Qigong - Qigong is a holistic system of coordinated body posture and movement, breathing, and meditation used for health, spirituality, and martial arts training.

Feldenkrais  - Join us in movement combinations that help release tight muscles to improve performance, reduce chronic pain and regain freedom of movement.

Restorative Yoga - A meditative class for restoring the body's natural balance. Poses are held for several minutes while you relax and release tension using focused breathing.

Hot Yoga - An intermediate to advanced level yoga workout in a hotter environment that pushes your strength , balance and flexibility to new levels.

Silver Yoga - A yoga class that is geared to our members who are elevated in age.

Gentle Stretch Enjoy relaxing music and flowing stretching.  Move through traditional stretching postures while slowing the breath, focusing the mind, and opening and stretching the body.

Tai Chi Tai Chi is and ancient health practice from China that incorporates deep abdominal breathing with very slow meditative movements. Perfect for teens and adults of all ages. Benefits include reduced stress and strengthened immune function, increased range of motion and stability as well as an improved sense of well-being.

Hooping Hooping is an energizing, fat-burning cardio and muscle-sculpting workout that's endlessly creative and diverse. It blends the fun of hooping, the groove of belly dance, and the urban energy of hip-hop to form a unique, liberating way to lose inches. It is easy to learn and low impact. Great for balance, coordination, and stress reduction as the hoop provides its own rhythm.

 

Aquatic Exercise

Aqua Jogging - A great cross training class for those looking to keep their cardio up without impact to the joints.

Arthritis Aqua - People of any age living with arthritis, rheumatic disease or related musculoskeletal conditions improve mobility, gait, flexibility, balance and coordination in a class designed specifically for them.

Aqua Fit - Strengthen and tone your body through a water exercise program while reducing stress on your joints.

Aqua Fit Lite -This program is designed for the person just beginning an exercise routine or persons with mild physical ailments. This class improves flexibility and mobility, tones and strengthens muscles, increases stamina and energy, and minimizes impact on joints.

Aqua Fit Deep -This medium intensity, no impact aqua aerobic class is conducted in deep water. This program uses a buoyant belt or pool noodle that allows participants to vertical train and to fully utilize the water's natural resistance.

Aqua Tai Chi -Held in water. AquaTai Chi is a variation on the ancient health practice from China that incorporates deep abdominal breathing with very slow meditative movements. Perfect for teens and adults of all ages. Benefits include reduced stress, strengthened immune function, increased range of motion and stability, as well as an improved sense of well-being.

Aqua Healthy Back -This gentle, recreational program lets you exercise without applying excess strain on your joints and muscles.  You will gain strength and flexibility while reducing pain and stiffness in your back.

Aqua Zumba -Known as the Zumba pool party, Aqua Zumba blends it all together into a safe, challenging water-based workout that's cardio conditioning, toning, and exhilarating beyond belief. Due to water's resistance, every salsa, merengue, and reggaeton step takes a bit more effort.

Aqua Stride -A fun, upbeat program for any fitness level held in the shallow end of the pool using a variety of equipment. As a low impact workout, it is perfect for beginning to moderate exercisers or those recovering from injuries/illness. It uses the unique properties of water such as buoyancy and drag to create resistance and reduce the strain on joints. Water Striding increases cardiovascular health while improving muscular endurance and flexibility and also helps to correct muscle imbalances in the body.

Hydro Zen -This experience combines the best of yoga and Tai Chi and brings them to the warm water. This class is designed to increase stability, balance, core strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and mental focus. This mind-body connection happens in chest deep water and is set to beautiful music. 

High Energy Aqua -This class features interval training to improve cardiovascular fitness along with medicine balls and resistance exercise to develop muscle strength. This class offers cardio, improves flexibility, shapes and tones muscles, and increases stamina and strength.

Aqua Stretch and Strength -Loosen up your body and build strength. This warm-water class includes stretching exercises and water weights to give you a refreshing low impact way to start the day. Emphasis is on increasing flexibility and strengthening the body. Cardio will not be included in this class.
