Seniors - Year-Round
This group is for swimmers who inspire to swim at a higher level and represent our YMCA in district, state, and national competitions for ages 13-19. Stroke mechanics, conditioning, and goal setting are emphasized. Swimmers MUST commit to a 4 of the 5 practices scheduled a week. Attendance will be taken for the Senior group. If your swimmer cannot commit to this, please let the coaching staff know and they will be moved to either a Level 1 group or the Barracuda Academy group.Swimmers should be able to swim 400 yards of legal freestyle with bilateral breathing and flip turns, swim 100 yards of legal backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly with proper turns, demonstrate proper racing starts, and demonstrate a commitment to training consistently. Serious commitment is expected in terms of attendance and practice intensity. The Senior Group emphasis is on refining stroke technique, perfecting race strategy, and improving speed and endurance with the ultimate goal of qualifying for YMCA States and Nationals, as well as, higher level USA meets. Because the focus of the Senior group is to attend higher level meets including YMCA Nationals, swimmers will be asked and encouraged to participate in various fundraising and volunteer activities to off-set travel expenses. Swimmers are also required to purchase additional training equipment such as training snorkels, fins pull buoy and paddles. Senior Group members must register for USA Swimming.
