Simulate a Storm with These Fun Weather Experiments for Kids

A storm is brewing and you get to choose whether it will rain or snow with these simple and educational weather-themed science experiments.

Rain Cloud in a Cup

The Science: The shaving cream acts as a cloud. As we add food coloring, the shaving cream becomes saturated with color until it can no longer hold the color and must release it into the water. This is similar to how clouds become saturated with water and must release what they cannot hold.

Snowstorm in a Jar

The Science: Water and oil don’t mix, so they create layers in our jar. When we add the Alka-Seltzer, it reacts with the water to create carbon dioxide. That carbon dioxide begins to float to the surface, bringing the white water with it, making it look like it is snowing.
