Montessori Programs at the YMCA
Montessori at the YMCA inspires your child to discover the joy of learning.
Montessori care at the Kennett Area YMCA and West Chester Area YMCA, for ages two and a half to five, offers a learning experience that helps children think critically, work collaboratively and act boldly — a skill set for the 21st century.
The Montessori method of education values the human spirit and the development of the whole child — physical, social, emotional and cognitive. In our mixed-age classrooms, children experience interactive learning in an environment carefully prepared by an educator who is sensitive to each child’s individual needs and abilities.
Children choose their activities, and discover language, mathematics, science, art and music, using materials developed by Dr. Maria Montessori and supplemented with additional resources. This educational environment fosters respect, cooperation, order and choice within limits. The school’s peaceful and non-competitive atmosphere also promotes strong character and values.
